4th Grade Rocks

I am very excited to be your child’s 4th grade teacher and to be part of their continued educational process.  I am your child’s Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher. I team teach with Mr. Novoa who is their Reading, Language Arts, and Writing teacher. This year we are using a lot of technology in the classrooms and there will be instances when the children need access to a computer and the internet from home to complete class assignments, do research, or make-up missed assignments.

Students take the STAAR State Exams in Math, Reading, and Writing this year. For this reason it is very important that your child is in regular attendance and doing their best right from the start. Excessive tardies and absences can seriously impede their learning process.

One of the expectations for math is that students have their multiplication facts 1–12 memorized.  I give the students a weekly timed test that is graded and entered in the grade book. Other grades will come from class work, tests and internet assignments.

Science is taught four days in the classroom and one day in lab. The students will be going once a week to a hands-on science lab. This lesson is based on the current topic and is conducted by our Science coach, Mrs. Luckey.

I plan to incorporate many hands-on projects throughout the year in Social Studies. Students will also have scheduled library class, technology class, computer lab time, art, and music class.

Please feel free to contact myself or Mr. Novoa should you have any questions or concerns. Our conference time is every day from 1:30 – 2:15 which can be scheduled through the school office. You can also email me if you do not feel the need for a scheduled conference. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
